Bringing hidden history to the surface.
The art of underwater photography is more than just capturing images, it is the ability to convey story(s). For me, it is an art that thrives in the midst of challenges. Especially at depths far beyond the recreational diving range. At depths beyond 60m, the light is severely limited and colours are completely swallowed up. I am also confronted with strong currents in the open sea beyond the protection of reefs. In caves, there is also darkness and sometimes rapidly changing visibility.
It is very important to me that my photography is always in action. I am often in the middle of a project, which has its own specific tasks, and yet I try to capture the perfect moment. Photographing historical wrecks is particularly fascinating for me. Every time I approach a wreck, I imagine the last moments before it sank and try to capture these emotions in my pictures.
My work makes it possible to visualise places and stories that remain out of reach for most people. Every dive, every photo is a contribution to making the hidden universe beneath the surface of the water accessible to everyone. In this sense, I see myself as an ambassador of another world - a world that deserves to be discovered, seen and preserved.
